We are celebrating our 50th Anniversary!
In the winter of 1971, an
enterprising guitarist named Joe Gillon opened Allegro Music in the
basement of our current location. He built two teaching
rooms at the back of the Cavalier Barber Shop, taught some
music lessons and rented out a few Yamaha guitars. In
1975, Joe moved Allegro Music upstairs to its current
In 1983, Herman Mallinger bought
the store. He taught violin and woodwinds, and his
daughter Rosyl instructed piano.
After spending 20 years as an
Allegro Music employee, Frank Cretaro decided it was time
for a change. So when Herman put the store up for sale in
Frank seized the opportunity to become the third owner.
From our humble beginnings, we
have grown into one of Toronto's most respected music
schools and retail stores.
