CHINA Cymbal |
A China cymbal is a uniquely-shaped cymbal which has a
upturned edge. This "edge" interrupts the vibration of
the cymbal giving it a short sustain -- that's a sound term which the
pros use for how long you can hear the cymbal after striking it. The cup of the
china cymbal is also more pronounced than on other cymbals. The China
has a sound that is best described as raw and "trashy" and is
generally quite loud. They are played for effect, offering a brash and
abrasive attack. Chinas are great for accent punches in the music.
Most Chinas used in a drum kit are mounted upside down for easier playing. They come in diameters of 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24 inches. A China with rivets is known as a Swish Knocker. Chinas make a wonderful addition to any setup. learn about Choosing Cymbals |
