HI HAT Cymbals |
Hi-hats are a crucial part of your drum kit. They are
a timekeeping necessity for all drummers. A "ride pattern" may
also be played on the hi-hats. The hi-hats are usually relatively small
(13 or 14 inches) and are always used as a pair. The bottom cymbal is
inverted and placed on the hi-hat stand with the second cymbal on top.
Applying the hi-hat foot pedal brings the edges of the two cymbals together to
produce the characteristic "chick" sound.
The top cymbal is usually thinner to make the hi-hat more responsive to stick work, and the two cymbals are usually quite different in sound. A broad range of sounds can be created with the hit-hats by striking them in the closed or open position. Close the cymbals for playing tight, definite sounds; open the cymbals for bigger, louder sounds; or alternate open and closed to play interesting rhythmic patterns. learn about the Crash |
