Electronic Metronomes

Why use a metronome?
Any good musician will tell you that time and feel are an integral part of how a piece of music is performed. That's why a good metronome is so important! It demonstrates the proper tempo at which a composition should be played, helps you develop a sense of musical "time" and accelerates your technical development.

Electronic metronome vs wind-up metronome
The electronic metronome's biggest advantages over the classic wind-up design are that it doesn't slow down (it doesn't become unwound) and it doesn't have to be placed on a level surface to function properly. Most models are small enough to fit in your pocket, purse or instrument case compartment. A popular feature is the earphone jack -- if you need to use a metronome in a noisy environment, connect it to an amplifier or put on an earphone and your set. Another handy feature is the "A"  reference tone which can be used for tuning.

We feature Seiko and Qwik Time electronic metronomes
Check out these features of the most popular Seiko and Qwik Time models. You'll wonder how you ever got along without them.

Seiko SQ50

Seiko SQ50

  • pocket size
  • tempo range: 40-208 beats per minute; set tempo by turning the dial
  • choose from click and/or flashing light
  • "A" (440 Hz) or "Bb" tone for tuning
  • fold out stand
  • earphone jack (earphone not included)
  • battery included
  • one year warranty
What's nice about the Seiko is that it offers two different click sounds, so you can choose the one that's most pleasing to your ear. It's popular with teachers because it mimics the click sound of a traditional wind-up wood metronome.
Qwik Time QT7

Qwik Time QT7

  • pocket size
  • tempo range: 40-250 beats per minute; set tempo by pushing the up or down button in one beat increments
  • LED display screen shows the tempo and time signature
  • choose from click and/or flashing light
  • 2/4, 3/4, or 4/4 time
  • accent beat
  • "A" (440 Hz) tone for tuning
  • fold out stand
  • earphone jack (earphone not included)
  • batteries included
  • one year warranty
The Qwik Time QT-7 produces a click (more like an electronic beep) for the first beat of each measure that sounds different than the rest. This accent beat makes it a lot easier to stay organized, especially when playing in unusual time signatures. You can reset the accent on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th beat. It's also possible to set 2/4, 3/4, or 4/4 time signatures.
Both Seiko and the Qwik Time feature a red flashing light visual beat. The click sound can be turned off to leave the flashing light, which is great for live performance when you don't want a click and for drummers who may not hear the click.
