Peavey Escort Portable Sound System

"If you're a small venue act looking for a P.A. that will give you great features and sound but is also easy to ship, carry, set up and use, the Escort is spot on."
                             -- Performing Songwriter

The Peavey Escort sound system package is a practical solution for live performers in small venues -- it's easy to use, hot sounding, profoundly portable, and packed with the features that count. Everything is matched and ready to plug in and play. We've sold the Escort to solo acts who haul their act around from place to place, acoustic bands who play the local coffeehouse circuit, schools, houses of worship, bands that needed an inexpensive rehearsal sound system, and corporations for their boardroom presentations. The feedback has been great -- people love the Escort.

And Peavey is a name that you see everywhere in live sound. Speakers, amps, and a lot of the pro audio gear that you see on stage at concerts is made by Peavey. Add the Escort to the list of high-quality Peavey products with a lot to offer

The System

The Escort sound system consists of a pair of two-way speakers with folding stands, a powered mixer, a Peavey cardioid dynamic microphone, and the speaker cables and microphone cable you'll need. The speaker stands will get the speakers up to 5 feet off the ground. Everything fits together into one easy-to-move unit that looks like a piece of luggage.

The Escort's features make it well suited for both voice and music, beginners and professionals, indoors or outdoors.

A low profile, highly mobile package

The Escort's all-in-one design packs everything into a hard-shell case making transporting and setup a breeze. Two compartments neatly hold the included microphone and cables with room left over for extra microphones, cables, sheet music, a walkman-style CD player or whatever. A larger compartment stores the speaker stands. The speakers latch in on top of the mixer so that the speaker's back and sides provide a cover and the whole unit is its own transport case. The speakers also have built-in handles so you can carry the entire thing. But to make it even easier to move around, the case has luggage-style wheels. Nice.

The package has style, weighs about 73 pounds, and sits smartly on a table. Getting set up is quick and simple and will take you less than five minutes.

It's all in the mix

Meet the Escort's stereo powered mixer. The input section has 5 channels. Channels 1 through 4 accept XLR (low impedance) microphone inputs. Channels 1 through 3 also accept 1/4-inch mono instrument inputs, and Channel 4 also accepts a stereo pair of 1/4-inch inputs (for stereo line-level signals such as those from a keyboard, synthesizer, or a sub mix from another mixer). Channel 5 is a stereo input with RCA jacks, a plus for musicians who use backing tracks from a CD or tape deck or who double as DJs or Karaoke Js. Or when it's time to take a break, why not play your latest self-produced CD through the Escort for the audience to enjoy.

Each channel has individual controls for you to tweak your tone: there's a 60mm Gain fader (to get the loudest sound without distortion), Bass and Treble EQ knobs (low and high frequency tone control), and a knob that controls the built-in digital reverb. The reverb adds a professional-quality effect. If you want to add depth to your acoustic sound without washing it out, the reverb is quick and easy.

Five channels are an ideal setup for several performance situations. For example, plug vocal microphones into channels 1 and 2, an electric guitar amplifier microphone into channel 3, and a pickup-equipped acoustic violin into channel 4. Or, you could plug vocal mics into channels 1 and 2, an acoustic/electric guitar into channel 3 and a keyboard into channel 4. Or, you could plug...

Your overall sound

For adjusting the overall sound, the Escort's powered mixer is equipped with a 5-band graphic EQ that has sliders labeled Low, Low-Mid, Mid, High-Mid, and High. When the system senses the presence of feedback at a certain frequency, an LED indicator glows above the offending EQ slider. This is Peavey's Feedback Locating System (FLS). It's your cue to spring into action and pull down the frequency band's slider slightly until the LED goes out. Thank you Peavey! With FLS, you don't have to go through the task of isolating the problematic frequencies manually.

When you've got your sound shaped the way you want it, the power amplifier (built-in to the powered mixer) ensures that you get your sound across. It generates 75 watts per output channel, 150-Watts of total power. It has a built-in limiter (Peavey's DDT speaker protection) that prevents distortion and shields the speakers from meltdown. Two 60mm Master Volume faders adjust the overall volume that's pumped through the left and right speakers. Each speaker cabinet contains a 10-inch woofer and piezo tweeter.

All the controls have a nice feel, and are simple to work. We have to say that for an all-in-one system, the Escort's sound quality is pleasantly surprising -- it's clear, excellent sound.

There's more...

The mixer also has a stereo AUX OUT (auxiliary output) with RCA jacks which can be used to drive a tape deck (record the show!) or subwoofer speaker, for example.

The two ¼-inch speaker outputs are at the back of the mixer. If you need stage monitoring, you can use one speaker as the main speaker and the other speaker as a monitor. Then adjust the relative volumes with the left and right Master Volume faders.

Come down to Allegro Music and check out the Peavey Escort. It looks small, but it has big sound. The price is right. And it'll get the job done without breaking your back.
