Buying
a Guitar for Left-Handed Players
Left-handed? You have something in common with some of the planet's greatest guitarists: Paul McCartney, Jimi Hendrix, Iggy Pop, Albert King, and Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) are lefties!

If you have never played guitar before:
We strongly recommend that you learn to play the guitar the way a
right-handed person would. Why? Because it's your left hand that is
doing the intricate chording on the fingerboard, and since your left hand is your
strong and dexterous hand, you have an advantage. Also, most instruction
books, songbooks, and music from the internet is written for
right-handed players. With most students, this approach works out just
fine. If you have already started playing left-handed:
Playing left-handed can be a difficult habit to break, so you have the
option of buying a left-handed guitar. However, your choice of
left-handed guitars from the manufacturers is extremely limited in model
and color. They are also about 10% more expensive than their
right-handed counterparts. At Allegro Music, we stock some beautiful
left-handed guitars from top manufacturers. |
